BFH: The Charities
Our Three Selected Breast Cancer CharitiesThree diverse national breast cancer charities with unique focuses have been chosen as beneficiaries of the Brooks For Her donation program:
Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation grants wishes and memory-making events for metastatic breast cancer patients while continuing to support, educate, and increase resource awareness. It is the driving force of the Foundation to make wishes come true for these brave individuals. The wishes and memory-making events bestowed allow stage IV fighters and their families opportunities to put aside the realities of this illness, if only for a time, while basking in the joy of a dream delivered. The Foundation’s hope is that every metastatic breast cancer patient facing a terminal diagnosis will be comforted with the joy of having left his or her family a final beautiful memory—something loved ones will remember and cherish for a lifetime. Past wishes granted include family vacations, trips to reunite with loved ones, second honeymoons, the chance to hear and see an ocean, computers, camcorders, Christmas presents for family members, and much more. The Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the premier international organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women and breast cancer. YSC works with survivors, caregivers, and the medical, research, advocacy, and legislative communities to increase the quality and quantity of life for women diagnosed with breast cancer ages 40 and under. Unlike their post-menopausal counterparts, young women diagnosed with breast cancer face higher mortality rates, fertility issues, and the possibility and ramifications of early menopause. YSC seeks to change the face of breast cancer by advocating to increase the number of studies about young women and breast cancer, educating young women about the importance of knowing their own bodies, and serving as a point of contact for young women with breast cancer. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists and humanitarians work together to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases. Researchers, including three Nobel laureates, bring a relentless pursuit and passion for health, knowledge, and hope to their work and to the world. At the forefront of breast cancer research, the Center focuses on the basic cellular mechanisms of cancer development, risk factors, genetics, diagnosis, early detection, prognosis, prevention, counseling, and treatment. More specifically, researchers are studying the impact diet has on breast cancer and recently found that the worldwide increase in breast cancer can be attributed to the adoption of a Western diet. They’ve also discovered continued use of hormone-replacement therapy increases a woman's risk of developing breast cancer. The Brooks For Her donation to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will be earmarked specifically for breast cancer research. Learn more about the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
